Sam Lombardo
Sam
Lombardo, 84, of California, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.
He was
born Sept. 12, 1919, in California, a son of the late Joseph and
Concetta DeRosa Lombardo.
He joined the California Volunteer Fire
Department in 1948 where, over the years, he served as both fire chief
and assistant fire chief.
Mr. Lombardo was a member of the Southwestern
PA Fire Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association Inc.
He was
instrumental in the planning and completion of the Southwestern PA Fire
Fighters Training Institute, located on the grounds of California
University Park.
Mr. Lombardo also was a member of American Legion JFK
Post 377 and the California Young Men's Club.
In addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Angelo and William
Lombardo. Left to cherish his memory are his wife
of 58 years, Marie
Rapacs Lombardo, whom he married Nov. 6, 1945; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Constance and Robert Barno of
Stroudsburg, and Darlene and
Jack O'Neil of Coal Center; one son and daughter-in-law, David and
Janet Lombardo of Colorado Springs,
Colo.; three sisters, Felicia Moore
of Merrittstown, Santa Eovaldi of Detroit, Mich., and Nancy Allshouse
of California, Pa.; six grandchildren,
Stephen and Brian Barno, Beth
Ann O'Neil Goodwin, and Katherine, Sam and Daniel Lombardo; one
great-granddaughter, Christine Marie
Goodwin; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC.,
Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, on
Friday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and unti1 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec.
27, when a blessing service will be held followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of
Christian Burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Church with Fr. Mark Skertich as
celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
The
California Volunteer Fire Department will conduct services Friday at 7
p.m. followed by American Legion services at 7:30.
